About Us

Our Vision

Work hard with the people and brands we love, to get them the results they need. Why do we need to love the people? Because business is personal to us; we put our heart and soul into our work and when it feels like a partnership it doesn’t feel like hard work.

We have been around the block too many times to just turn up and punch the time card. To generate epic value for our client and partners we know we need to get our hands dirty and help them to exceed what they thought was possible. The result has to build equity for the brand over time, or we won’t do it. It can’t be about what they like (#sorrynotsorry), it must be about what will work in market and we are goal orientated in our delivery to ensure this is the case.

Our Name

The emerger is the holy grail in a fly Fishermans life; It is where larva turn into nymphs and the trout go mental in a feeding frenzy of excitement. It is the most switched on a river system or lake can be - and it is when you can cast a fly and see your target engulfed in an instant! It is the definition of grabbing attention and being relevant. It is the greatest time of change and the greatest time of opportunity, and this is why we called our business Emerger. We want this for our clients and our Tight Five.

Our Beliefs

  • Franko Callanan

    Life is short.

    No dickheads and no-bullshit.

Change happens fast and we don’t have time for the dance. We are politely direct, as we want to kick goals and have fun and that’s impossible when there is bullshit, egos or puffery in the way (agencies have a nasty habit of breeding that stuff). And we are not here to make work to win awards for ourselves… the only people that should be winning awards are the people we love working with.

  • Sweep the sheds.

    Sweep the sheds.

Stay humble, do what is needed. Always.

Ok… we stole this from the All Blacks, but we truly believe in it too. We are never too big to do the little jobs, or too tired to do the hard jobs. Yes we have over 40 years collective experience in sales, marketing and creative industries… but you will never hear “that’s not my job” from our lips. A partnership is a team sport, so we lean in, roll up our sleeves and do what it takes. That’s what no ego looks like to us.

  • Smudge Callanan

    Love it or leave it.

    Dating can be hard. Fact.

Let’s be honest, we bloody love what we do. Being immersed in a business and solving challenges in creative ways that make our partners and their customers happy… it is literally the greatest job. The day we don’t like listening, learning and working hard to get amazing results is the day we walk away. Our clients and partners deserve the best and we will work hard to deliver that. Nothing less will do.

  • Make it simple.

Make it simpler, and simpler again.

Simplicity is at the heart of sophistication.

Stripping away all the unnecessary noise and distractions to reveal the true DNA of a brand and connect that to the right people, at the right time, for the right outcome is at the core of what we do. We truly believe in the magical unicorn capabilities of simplicity. But, we also know that simple can be hard to get right… that’s why we specialise in the strategy required to deliver it.

  • A-15

    Everything is better outdoors.

In nature we breathe more, deeply.

We love the outdoors, we love catching our own dinner, sleeping under the stars, exploring nature and being present. We hike, camp, fish, hunt, ride motorbikes, walk our dog, swim in the ocean and watch sunsets like it’s our actual job. We know this is just a personal thing, but the outdoors is our kind of meditation and we try to be in the wild as often as possible. And, we like to take our Tight Five with us… if they have been good :)

Who runs this place?

Two adventurers who love the outdoors and a good story + their awesome entourage of the good-hearted, hard working peeps who see the world the same way they do.

FRANKO CALLANAN
CO-FOUNDER & BRAND DIRECTOR

Franko started his career managing one of the fastest paced sales agencies in Australia, with over 300 direct sales staff in the field. He then led a print advertising agency as Group Account Director, servicing the insurance, agriculture and banking industry, before co-founding his own creative agency (Channelzero) with two of his best mates at 26. There he worked as Executive Creative Director and built the agency up to deliver some of the best performing and iconic campaigns in Australia (like Aussie kids are Weet-Bix kids), before selling it to a London media company in 2016.

Franko is creative by trade, but has always found it impossible to understand how a designer or account manager in an agency with no sales experience, no customer experience or business nous could pretend to advise business managers and owners on strategy. So he set out after university to learn sales, marketing, consumer research and economic trends to build on his design background and truly understand how to turn businesses into brands.

He has used his understanding of creativity, sales and human behaviour to study and develop brand methodologies that have changed results for thousands of businesses over his 20 years in the industry.

In naming, creating, building and growing brands, Franko has written strategies and campaigns, content sponsorship and brand alignments for the likes of Rio Tinto, FMC, Nestle Professional, Brisbane Airport, Speedo, Sanitarium, Westpac, Accolade Wines, Vidal Sassoon, Nudie, Volvo, Citibank, LG, NSW Waratahs, Australian Rugby Union, Sydney Water, Dow AgroSciences and Schering-Plough.

If Franko is not at work you will find him climbing hills to fill his freezer with meat, fishing for dinner, riding his motorbike, teaching the kids how to make forts or yelling at a screen while watching one of the sports he fanatically follows.

LETICIA CALLANAN
CO-FOUNDER & STRATEGY DIRECTOR

Leticia started her career as a journalist. With a passion for meeting new people, adventure and storytelling the world of journalism was the perfect combination of exciting, fast-paced and unforgiving. Mentored by the likes of the late Peter Harvey at the Nine Network and Scott Simon at National Public Radio in Washington DC, Leticia set about making sure the stories she told were captivating and relevant. After stints at news.com.au and The Australian, she turned her eye to telling stories in the world of sport.

While at Fox Sports, Leticia was promoted from the editorial team to formalise a role she was naturally playing as the glue between the editorial, advertising, marketing and subscription teams - and she hasn’t looked back.

Over the years, Leticia has had a relentless focus on building her knowledge and experience in branded content, lead generation, multi-platform marketing, SEO, SEM, CRM, budget management and forecasting, subscription modelling, stakeholder engagement, data commercialisation, market research and strategic partnerships.

With more than 20 years experience, 15 of which have been digital and 10 focussed on brand and marketing in senior roles across sports, finance, education, FMCG and hospitality industries, Leticia brings with her an astute commercial ability and is an expert at putting together a multi-channel strategy that is anchored to achieving core business targets.

Most recently Leticia was Head of Marketing for Merivale, where she was responsible for more than 76 brands, 30 partner integrations, a team of more than 30 and a multi-million dollar budget.

Leticia is a proud mother to three boys, a published author (The Business School of Motherhood), a retired athlete (who still runs to stay fit) and she loves to fish, camp and drink whiskey.

OUR NETWORK

We don’t need a big office or lots of staff to impress our partners (we’ve done that). With over 20 years each in the global market, we have access to a network of professionals that have become our team (and our family).

We put together the right talent for the task at hand to get an exceptional job done efficiently and effectively. This results in the ability to infinitely scale and ensures we are always working with a group of talented people who are personally motivated to create better value for our clients.

EVERETT
PEOPLE EXPERIENCE DIRECTOR

He is our eternal optimist; living his best life, every minute of every day. Partial to a snack (especially of the chip variety), loves an office drop in (especially when a meeting is already underway) and knows how to put things back where he found them; which is a lot more than we can say for most of the adults arounds here.
